REQUEST TOWN MEETINGS

FEDERAL DAILY ACTION – Monday, August 6, 2018
Submitted by: Joanne Pero

REQUEST AUGUST RECESS TOWN HALLS – CALL YOUR REP’S LOCAL OFFICE!

The House of Representatives is currently on Congressional Recess until September 4th, and the Senate through August 14th. This time is allotted for Members of Congress to work in their districts and engage with constituents in the states they represent. It is also the perfect time for them to hold public town halls and hear the concerns of their constituents live and in person.

Your representatives work for you: you should have regular opportunities to discuss their positions, the platforms of their parties, and how their legislative agendas will affect you and those close to you. Town halls are a critical tool for holding representatives accountable for their actions and ensuring that these men and women, who spend much of their time outside of their home states, are hearing the needs and concerns of their constituents in person.

Hold your representatives accountable for their actions and demand they face their constituents while they’re home. If members of Congress refuse to hold a town hall, request an in-office meeting to discuss your concerns.

NOTE: Select a Local Office to call to get the most up-to-date schedule information from staffers.

RESISTBOT: Text the word “resist” to 50409. You will be prompted through to your MoC. It is easy, and your representative receives a fax.

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from _________.

I’m calling to ask if Rep/Senator is planning to have any town halls during the spring recess?

[IF YES] I’d like to RSVP. May I please have the details?

[IF NO] Then I’d like to request that Rep. John H. Rutherford schedule one. There are many pressing matters we constituents should be able to voice our opinion on face to face.

[OPTIONAL] Would Rep/Senator or their legislative aide be available to meet with me to talk about [specific issue you find most concerning]? I have concerns I’d like to discuss.

Thank you for your hard work answering the phones.
