FEDERAL DAILY ACTION – Wednesday, November 22, 2017

The Call or RESISTBOT – #TrumpTaxScam # GOPtaxscam

House Republicans on Thursday passed legislation that would overhaul the U.S. tax code, but under the House bill many households could see immediate tax increases. The proposed Senate plan would permanently reduce the corporate tax rate but allow cuts for households and individuals to expire.

OPPOSE TAX PLAN’S CUTS TO MEDICARE, SOC SECURITY

FEDERAL DAILY ACTION – Monday, November 20

YOUR CALL OR RESISTBOT: OPPOSE THE TAX PLAN’S MANDATORY CUTS TO MEDICARE AND SOCIAL PROGRAMS

The deep flaws in the Senate GOP’s tax reform plan continue to emerge. Since the tax plan adds $1.5 trillion to the deficit, it triggers a balanced budget law called “statutory pay-as-you-go” (or PAYGO). Under PAYGO, any legislation that increases the federal deficit must cover the costs of this deficit through mandatory cuts to existing pro

ACTION: The Tax Fight=The Health Care Fight!!!

Republican leaders in the Senate released a new Senate version of the Trump Tax Scam that includes a repeal of the individual mandate. Repealing the individual mandate, which requires that every American have health insurance or pay a penalty, was the centerpiece of the Republicans’ failed effort to pass the “skinny repeal” bill in the Senate in July. Numerous major health care g

BACK-DOOR STRATEGY

FEDERAL DAILY ACTION-WED-NOVEMBER 15TH, 2017

THE CALL-#BackdoorStrategy to gut the Affordable Care Act

Senate Republicans have decided to include the repeal of the Affordable Care Act’s requirement that most people have health insurance into the sprawling tax rewrite, merging the fight over health care with the high-stakes effort to cut taxes.
The move to tuck the repeal of the so-called individual mandate into the tax overhaul is an attempt by Republicans to solve two problems: math and politics. Repealing the mandate, a longstanding Republican goal, would save hundreds of billions of dollars over the next decade. That would free up money that could be used to expand middle-class tax cuts or help pay for the overall cost of the bill, which can add no more than $1.5 trillion to the deficit over 10 years. It could also help secure the votes of the most conservative senators, enabling lawmakers to pass the bill along party lines.
If it becomes law, the repeal would save more than $300 billion over a decade but result in 13 million fewer Americans being covered by health insurance by the end of that period, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Republicans said on Tuesday that they would use the savings — which stem from reduced government spending to subsidize health coverage — to pay for an expansion of the middle-class tax cuts that lawmakers had proposed.

YOUR SCRIPT:
This is [NAME] and I’m a constituent in [ZIP].
I urge [Rep/Sen____] to vote against the Republican’s tax bill. This bill is just a back door strategy to gut the Affordable Care Act to give tax cuts to Corporations that ship jobs overseas. It will trigger the PAYGO rule that will cut $25 billion from Medicare and more. We can not go back to the day when only the healthy and wealthy have health care. This bill will result in 13 million fewer insured and will destabilize the insurance market.
Thank you.

FEDERAL DAILY ACTION-NOVEMBER 13th, 2017 TAX CUTS AND JOBS ACT-

This legislation will hurt Americans at every stage of their lives. Students trying to pay back the loans they took out to afford college; teachers buying classroom supplies with money from their own pockets; veterans looking to earn a good living after putting their lives on the line for our nation; working folks struggling to save for a secure retirement; and aging Americans suffering from chronic illnesses will all be hit with new expenses and face higher barriers under the Republicans’ tax bill. As Democrats repeatedly pointed out this week, corporations will keep many of the same benefits middle-class families are losing.”

Talking Points

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].
I’m calling today to urge Rep. [NAME] to vote against the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
An argument can be made for overhauling the U.S. tax code to lighten the burden on ordinary Americans, but this bill’s reforms would benefit the wealthiest Americans, add to the national debt, and not do enough to help the middle class. I urge Rep. [NAME] to work together on bi-partisan reform to give relief to the middle class
Thank you.

Federal Daily Action – Thursday, November 9th, 2017 The Call – #PuertoRicoRelief #JonesAct

Puerto Rico’s infrastructure has been decimated, leaving many citizens without electricity, clean water and food.
Both Florida senators, one a Republican and the other a Democrat, have demanded the administration come up with fixes for Puerto Rico’s damaged roads and bridges so aid can get where it is needed.
Massive damage to the water supplies has left many people drinking unclean water, causing outbreaks and deaths from leptospirosis.
Nurses returning from Puerto Rico have accused the government of leaving people to die in hospitals without clean water and where surgeries are done by the light of cell phones.
With infrastructure destroyed, many Puerto Ricans are also left without jobs.
Puerto Rico will need a massive quantity of imported supplies in order to rebuild its infrastructure and the Jones Act almost doubles the cost of many supplies.
Representative Nydia Velazquez (D-NY) has called for a one-year waiver of the Jones Act so that the cost of rebuilding supplies are within reach.
Puerto Ricans are Americans who have suffered a devastating natural disaster. We must do all we can to help Puerto Rico repair its critical infrastructure, including a one-year waiver of the Jones Act to help with the cost of the massive recovery effort.

Your Action
Call your 3 members of Congress and urge them to support a one-year waiver of the Jones Act for Puerto Rico.

RESISTBOT: Text the word “resist” to 504-09. Follow the prompts to send your Members of Congress a fax. It’s easy. You enter your zip code and you are directed to your representatives.
